How long will MultiMat
last?
The life span of MultiMat depends on many factors, including type
of use, proper cleaning and handling, but the average user can expect
many months or even years of use. One great advantage is that double
sided, thereby providing double the life span when compared to other
single side products.
What is the cleaning procedure of MultiMat?
Cleaning MultiMat is simple and easy. Merely use a soft sponge and
running water to remove chips, dust, or dirt, and then allow to dry.
No chemicals or cleaners are required.
How is MultiMat affixed to the engraving table top?
No double stick tapes vacuums, or clamps are necessary, and MultiMat
can be easily removed and stored, then reinstalled by placing it in
position and gently pressing down. No other hold down system is so
fast and easy to use.
Is there any clean up required after using MultiMat?
For most situations the answer is no, however MultiMat does leave
a slight oily residue on the back of some engraving plates. If you
wish to use double stick tape as a plate mounting system, this residue
can be easily removed with a cloth and rubbing alcohol, or the tape
can be applied to the plate before engraving, and then used with MultiMat.
What happens if I engrave through the engraving material into MultiMat,
is it ruined?
MultiMat has a self healing feature. Small cuts in the surface of
MultiMat should not cause a problem, and seem to heal. Of course continued
cuts over a long period of time will degrade the effectiveness of
MultiMat. Many small enclosed cuts (closed path such as a series of
circles or squares) could cause sections of the mat to come out, which
of course would degrade its performance.
MultiMat seems expensive, how can I justify paying that much?
Although MultiMat will wear out eventually, it is not really a consumable
item like double stick tape or labor. MultiMat makes life a lot easier
for the engraver, and will pay for itself quickly in time saved and
ease of use. When the cost of double stick hold down tape, along with
the associated time and labour needed for applicaton and removal is
figured in, then MultiMat becomes even more cost effective.
How is MultiMat sold, and how do other engravers utilize it to
best advantage?
MultiMat is sold in standard sizes: 12” x 12”, 12” x 24”, 24” x 24”,
24” x 48” and can be cut to size with a standard plastic shear. Some
users will cut the mat to their table size. Others prefer to cut their
MultiMat into several equal parts corresponding to the size plate
that they most often engrave. They than use one, and keep the others
in reserve.
